On the eve of the SEC Championship game, Kaptiv8 is declaring victory for the Georgia Bulldogs. The Pantone company – the world’s leading authority on color trends – has announced the color of the year for 2023: Viva Magenta. Is it any coincidence that this color is nearly identical to our beloved Bulldog Red? We think not!
After coming off of their first NCAA Football National Championship since 1980 (and winning every game since), riding high on several high profile US News & World Report rankings, and witnessing a momentous rise in undergraduate applications, Pantone’s choice seems to be the obvious one.
In fact, Pantone’s own statement about their selection – as quoted in a recent Time Magazine Spotlight – could easily hold true for our favorite University’s primary hue:
“We chose this color because we felt that it was an unconventional shade for an unconventional time, something that could present us with a new vision,” Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the institute, tells TIME. Viva Magenta, Esieman notes, communicates power—but in an assertive, not aggressive way. “It’s a color that really vibrates with vim and vigor, that demonstrates a new signal of strength, which is something we all need for a more optimistic future.”
Except for the part about not being aggressive (Sic ‘em!), we really couldn’t say it any better concerning our favorite color and our beloved hometown institution. Go Dawgs!
