WordPress Developer (Gutenberg / Block Editor Specialist)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced WordPress Developer with deep expertise in the Gutenberg (Block) Editor and its React-based architecture. The ideal candidate has strong experience building custom blocks, themes, and scalable WordPress solutions using modern development practices while also maintaining and extending projects built with the Classic Editor.

You will play a key role in architecting high-performance, flexible, and maintainable WordPress websites that prioritize usability, accessibility, and clean code standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop custom WordPress themes from scratch
• Build and maintain custom Gutenberg blocks using React
• Extend and customize the WordPress Block Editor experience
• Develop reusable block libraries and design systems
• Maintain and enhance legacy projects using the Classic Editor (monthly maintenance on hosted sites, including plugin updates, WP core updates and PHP updates) as needed
• Convert Classic Editor builds to Gutenberg where appropriate
• Write clean, scalable, and well-documented code
• Ensure ADA compliance and accessibility best practices across projects
• Optimize websites for performance, accessibility (WCAG), and SEO
• Collaborate with designers to translate Figma/Adobe XD mockups into functional builds
• Implement responsive, mobile-first development practices
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues
• Ensure cross-browser compatibility
• Work with REST APIs and third-party integrations
• Contribute to technical architecture decisions

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional WordPress development experience
• Strong experience with the WordPress Block Editor (Gutenberg)
• Advanced knowledge of React (ESNext, hooks, component architecture)
• Strong PHP development skills
• Experience developing custom Gutenberg blocks
• Deep understanding of WordPress core architecture
• Experience with the Classic Editor and legacy theme structures
• Strong knowledge of:
  • HTML5
  • CSS3 / SCSS
  • JavaScript (ES6+)
  • REST APIs
• Experience with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) and Custom Post Types (CPT)
• Understanding of performance optimization techniques
• Knowledge of ADA compliance and accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1/2.2)
• Strong attention to detail with a commitment to clean, maintainable code

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with headless WordPress implementations
• Experience with WooCommerce customization

Hiring Terms

• Full-time
• Compensation: $75,000 Annually
